Charcot Foot and Ankle Update

This seminar is a comprehensive review of the current state of our knowledge concerning the Charcot foot and ankle. The underlying metabolic disorders are explored first, followed by an extensive deep look at the current forms of treatment. Complications and their management are discussed in great detail, as are the newest technologies in 3D printing and computerized external fixation.

  • Understand what are the most recent explanations to understand the etiology of the Charcot foot? And the Charcot Ankle? How are they the same or different?
  • Understand methods of surgical reconstruction, both open and percutaneous, to restore the Charcot foot’s essential anatomy and function.
  • Understand how hardware selection for Charcot foot and ankle is different than standard foot and ankle surgery, describe why and how to correctly select it.
