The Federal Health IT Strategic Plan has been published.


The Plan reflects federal government priorities to help eligible providers become meaningful users of health IT; support implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA); protect individuals’ privacy; empower consumers with access to their health information, and support enhanced learning and innovation. The Plan lists 5 goals:

Goal I: Achieve Adoption and Information Exchange through Meaningful Use of Health IT

Goal II: Improve Care, Improve Population Health, and Reduce Health Care Costs through the Use of Health IT: Goal II discusses the specific ways health IT is contributing to the goals of the Affordable Care Act.

Goal III: Inspire Confidence and Trust in Health IT: Goal III focuses on government efforts to update its approach to privacy and security issues related to health IT.
Goal IV: Empower Individuals with Health IT to Improve their Health and the Health Care System; Goal IV discusses how the government is empowering individuals with access to their health information.

Goal V: Achieve Rapid Learning and Technological Advancement; Goal V focuses on ways to enable innovation and appropriate use of health information to improve knowledge about health across populations.
