Apple: FaceTime video chat sessions can be secured at a level that will satisfy HIPAA requirements


In a potential game-changer for mobile electronic health (mHealth), Apple has announced that it is possible to configure your networks with WPA2-enterprise in a way that makes the end-to-end Facetime pipe HIPAA compliant.

I am personally concerned about this, as the WPA2-enterprise encryption only covers the wireless part and not the communication over the Internet. If the total end-to-end pipe is to be encrypted, it would have to be done by the facetime clients.
