Health Information Exchanges are Moving Forward


The news outlets have been flooded with news from Health Information Exchanges in the past week. Among the articles availble for reading include :
UC Davis has taken over the project to launch a Health Information Exchange in California and has received a 16 month 17.5 million grant to work with the California Department of Health and Human Services.

Massachusetts has launched a statewide Health Information Exchange. In the kickoff of the launch Govenor Deval Patrick sent his own health record between Mass General Hospital and Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

The Arizona Health-e Connection announced that it has exceeded 587 Direct Exchange secure messaging accounts as of September 28, 2012.

In New York the Statewide Health Information Network of NY announced a partnership with New York City's Interboro Regional Health Information Organization Healthix Inc and the Southern Teir Health Link for exchange of e-PHI.

In 2014, doctors who wish to meet Stage 2 of Meaningful Use will need to connect with a Health Information Exchange. These announcements and milestones are a good indication that these exchanges will be available for doctors to utilize for exchange of patient information.
