Healing Venous Ulcers with Compliant Compression

Healing a venous leg ulcer requires the patient’s diligent, compliant use of compression.  Often times, a patient’s ability to tolerate compression can be a rate-limiting step in healing a venous leg ulcer.  Therefore, it is imperative that practitioners provide their patients with compression options that are tolerable and realistic.  It is unfair to judge a patient’s compliance with an intervention if that intervention is not practical and / or unrealistic.  In this webinar, the pathology of venous leg ulcers will be discussed as well as their treatment options, with a special focus on the gold standard of compression.  Different types of lower extremity compression garments will be discussed, including a new Velcro-bungee based model demonstrated in peer-reviewed literature to be tolerated by patients more favorably than more traditional options.  Finally, the coding, compliance, and documentation considerations associated with providing these garments will be discussed.  With this information, practitioners will be able to supply these compression garments themselves, ensuring their patients receive the appropriate product.
